It’s the first day of my 100 Day Play Project and I feel daunted. I’m a mum of 3 kids, I work and I have a long commute.

You may have seen Alan Watts and David Lindberg’s amazing video  “Why Life Is Not A Journey”. This incredible thinking says that the purpose of the universe is play. They use the analogy of music “You don’t work music, you play it”. We are not trying to get somewhere, “We are supposed to sing and dance while the music is being played”.

This is the perfect inspiration to begin my project and reframe my “Rushing Women’s Syndrome”.

Why we need music

A simple fact I had forgotten is that music is necessary in my life.

Music moves us physically and psychologically; changes moods and emotions; helps express ourselves; soothes us and reminds us who we are. It keeps us connected and lightens the mood.

Day 1 Task: Make a playlist 

Before life was busy, I was always getting new records.

These days, I enjoy artists like Justin Bieber and Beyonce, but don’t actively listen to their music and rarely seek newer edgier music.

Today, I made a simple and mainstream playlist of dance music released in the last year.

What I learned

  1. New music gave me energy and made my heart beat faster.
  2. I got off the sidelines and was in the game.
  3. I can’t help but dance when I hear music.
  4. It was a great common ground with the kids.
  5. It’s pretty easy to do with huge rewards.

A great start to the 100 Day Play Project.
